Why It Matters:
Over time, your car’s paintwork collects contaminants like tar, brake dust, and industrial fallout that can’t be removed by regular washing. Decontaminating the paint ensures a smooth surface, improving the longevity and appearance of waxes, sealants, and coatings.
1. Wash the Vehicle
Start by thoroughly washing your car to remove loose dirt and grime. This creates a clean surface for the decontamination process.
2. Apply Fallout Remover
Apply a dedicated fallout remover to the car’s paint to target iron particles and industrial contaminants. Let it sit for a few minutes until you see it change colour (bleeding effect).
3. Rinse Thoroughly
After the fallout remover has done its job, rinse the vehicle thoroughly to remove all residue.
4. Inspect for Tar Spots
Check the paint for any tar spots that the fallout remover may have missed. These are typically small black dots that cling to the paint’s surface.
5. Use a Clay Bar for Final Decontamination
For any remaining bonded contaminants, use a clay bar to gently lift them off the surface. Lubricate the surface with a clay lubricant and glide the clay bar over the paint in straight lines.
6. Rinse Again
Rinse the vehicle one final time to remove any remaining residue from the clay bar or other decontamination products.
7. Dry the Vehicle
Dry your car using a microfibre drying towel or air dryer to prevent water spots.
By following these steps, you’ll achieve a clean, contaminant-free surface, ready for polishing, waxing, or sealing.
